IPTC_IIM_character_limits

IPTC's Information Interchange Model (IIM) was created in 1991 as a way to transfer information about an image from one location to another.  

In 1995 Adobe developed a method to embed metadata in Photoshop and they adopted a subset of IPTC IIM as the data standard.  This data became known as "IPTC fields" in the "IPTC header".

IPTC IIM is till supported in most applications and is also represented in the new XML-based embedded metadata technology, XMP.

XMP provides more flexibility and interoperability than IIM.  

One limitation of IIM is the number of characters each field can hold, shown in the list below.
